Okay friends!

Can I have everybody’s eyes up here please?

Thank you. Thank you Marcus. I see you. Eyes up here please.

Okay!

So! We have some VERY exciting news today and I want to make sure everybody is listening because this is important and I don’t want anyone to miss it, okay? Okay.

We are going to a party!

[waits for the excitement to die down]

I know! I know, it’s very exciting. We’re going to use our inside voices though, okay? Okay. Thank you.

The party is called a barbecue and a barbecue is when we go to someone’s house and we eat food outside. Has anyone been to a barbecue before?

Yes! That’s right. Outside. Very good.

Now I need everyone to listen carefully because I’m going to tell you some important information and then I’m going to ask you to repeat it back to me, okay? Okay.

The party is on Sunday. Can everyone say Sunday?

Sunday.

Very good! And what day is Sunday? Sunday is a day when we don’t have school. That’s right. Sunday is a day when we rest and spend time with the people we love, and THIS Sunday we are going to spend it with the Magic Lab, which is our group, and all of our friends.

Now. The party starts at one o’clock. One o’clock is after lunch. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to eat our lunch and THEN we’re going to go to the party. Does that make sense?

It makes sense. Good.

The party is at a house. The address is 70 Scituate Street in Arlington and I’ve written it down on a little card for each of you to take home tonight and give to your grown-up, okay? Do not lose the card. I’m going to say that again. Do not lose the card.

We’re going to go to the back yard. The back yard is behind the house. We’re going to go around the side.

Now. Who can tell me what we need to bring to the party?

That’s right! We need to bring food or drinks to share. Sharing is something we’re very good at, isn’t it. We are going to bring something for the table because when we go to someone’s house we don’t show up with empty hands. We talked about this.

More information about what to bring is coming soon. I’ll send a note home.

Now. I want to tell you about someone very special who is going to be at this party.

Her name is Jeannine.

[pause for effect]

Jeannine is in charge of the grill. The grill is how we cook the food at a barbecue. It’s very hot so we are going to give Jeannine lots of space, aren’t we. We are not going to touch the grill. We are not going to stand too close to the grill. We are going to use our listening ears when Jeannine is talking and we are going to say thank you when she gives us food.

Can everyone say thank you Jeannine?

Thank you Jeannine.

Beautiful. She works very hard and she is very good at what she does and we are lucky to have her.

Felice is also going to be there and Felice has organized everything and when Felice has organized everything we don’t need to worry, do we. No we don’t.

Okay! So let’s go over what we learned today.

We are going to a barbecue. On Sunday. At one o’clock. At 70 Scituate Street in Arlington, in the back yard. We are going to bring food or drinks to share. We are going to be kind and use our manners and give Jeannine lots of space at the grill.

Does anyone have any questions?

Yes?

No, I don’t know exactly what Jeannine is going to make. That’s a great question though.

Any other questions?

Okay! I’m so proud of how well you listened today. You are going to have SO much fun at this party.

Now let’s line up for snack. Criss cross applesauce please.

[claps a rhythm]

[A note goes home in each backpack that evening. It says: 70 Scituate St, Arlington. May 17th. 1pm. Rear garden. Bring something to share. Coordination TBA. — Felice & the Grownups, Boston Magic Lab.]

[Marcus loses the note.]
